Air Liquide America Specialty Gases, LLC recently introduced two SCOTT™ brand EPA protocol calibration standards that will offer help to approximately 10,000 facilities nationwide to comply with new legislation governing greenhouse gas emissions.
Effective January 1, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Mandatory Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Rule will require large emitters of heat-trapping emissions to begin collecting greenhouse gas (GHG) data. Generally, the EPA’s greenhouse gas rule calls for direct measurement of emissions from certain units that already are required to collect and report data using continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMs). To meet this additional monitoring requirement, Air Liquide is offering four and five-component SCOTT GHG EPA protocol calibration mixtures that include methane and carbon dioxide. The mixtures will enable affected facilities to monitor emissions more efficiently and economically by allowing them to monitor CO, CO2, CH4, NOx, and SO2 using a single calibration gas standard. Guy Rowland, president of Air Liquide America Specialty Gases LLC, commented, “These additions to our product portfolio demonstrate Air Liquide’s ongoing focus on innovation and unparalleled product quality to bring value to our clients.”
Electric utilities and other sources have historically monitored and reported carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitric oxide emissions for the EPA’s Acid Rain Program and have required highly accurate calibration gas mixtures made per EPA traceability protocol. Air Liquide’s innovative technologies help to curb polluting emissions, lower industry’s energy use, recover and reuse natural resources, and contribute to the development of energies of tomorrow. Its expertise includes calibration gas mixtures for environmental monitoring applications, and through its Scott Specialty Gases heritage, is the world’s largest producer of EPA protocol gases.
Air Liquide America Specialty Gases LLC operates over 30 facilities throughout North America to provide fast localized delivery by dedicated trucks. Mixture facilities are ISO 9001:2000 certified while laboratories are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. Products are available both directly and through Air Liquide’s ALNET™ distributor network. Most Air Liquide products may also be purchased online.
